Bringing the ducts inside: unvented attics, conditioned basements and crawl spaces, and avoiding exterior walls

Ducts located in unconditioned spaces can result in energy efficiency penalties of 20 percent or more. Locating the air handler and ductwork on the interior of a home's thermal boundary can dramatically improve the efficiency of the system. In addition, duct leakage testing requirements in the 2009 IRC can be avoided if the air handler and all ducts are located within conditioned space. This webinar will discuss several methods for bringing the thermal distribution system inside, including unvented attics, unvented crawl spaces, conditioned basements, and utilizing existing interior spaces.
