Author:  Eric Burnett

Date:  June 1997

Preface and acknowledgments

This report is one of four projects on basements currently being conducted by the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center (PHRC). Financial support has been provided by:

·                   The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), Commonwealth of Pennsylvania;

·                   The Pennsylvania Builders Association (PBA);

·                   The individuals, associations, and corporations that are members of the PHRC;

·                   The Hankin Endowment; and

  ·                   The Pennsylvania State University.

This particular report is intended for builders and homeowners who are interested in reducing the risk of flood damage — or minimizing the consequences — to homes in Pennsylvania. It seeks to provide some insights into the issues and to help readers to obtain assistance and to locate detailed information on how to prevent or minimize flood damage.

This document was developed by Brennan Glantz. The assistance of Michelle McMullen and Angela Burnett in producing the final version of the report is much appreciated.

The PHRC is responsible for producing this report. We welcome questions or other feedback on this work.
