General Information:

The Pennsylvania Housing Research/Resource Center is  located within the Pennsylvania State University and at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. The PHRC was established in 1986 as a result of a partnership between Penn State and the housing industry.  Since the PHRC’s   inception, over 12,000 individuals have participated in PHRC courses and special training events.

The PHRC serves the citizens of the Commonwealth and the building industry in PA in the following ways:

·    Works with the various sectors of the building industry

·    Conducts research and development of new technologies

·    Delivers training and education

The PHRC provides education and training on many aspects of residential construction. It’s programs include training for builders, contractors, design professionals and code officials. All programs are conducted by experienced instructors, and training manuals, examples and handouts are provided.

It should be noted that the PHRC receives support from both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Federal Government.  This support helps fund the development of programs as well as offsetting some of the delivery costs.  Without this support, the PHRC would not be able to offer these high quality programs.

Scheduling and Fees:

These programs described in this catalogue are intended to be offered by sponsoring organizations on a fee for-service-basis.  The fees for any particular program are listed in the program specifications.

PHRC members are offered the program at a discounted rate.  To qualify for the “Member Cost”, a company or association must maintain an annual PHRC membership of at least $1,000.  Please visit the PHRC website for membership information.

The PHRC provides a turn-key service for these programs, as well as experienced instructors and all the materials required for the programs .

Sponsoring organizations are responsible for all marketing, for locating and securing an appropriate meeting facility, conducting registration and for having on-site staff support available for registration and customer service.  The PHRC will help market a sponsor’s program, location, fees, etc. on the Code Training Consortium  web-site at no cost. Visit the web-site at www.engr.psu.edu/ctc for details.

The  sponsoring organization is responsible for providing a suitable room, meals, beverages and snacks for breaks, etc., (if any are provided).

Programs are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  To assure availability, we recommend scheduling three to six months in advance. Programs in this brochure are  priced for locations in Pennsylvania. Prices subject to  change without notice.

Instructors:

The PHRC strives to provide the highest quality and most knowledgeable instructors as possible.  The PHRC draws upon professional staff and faculty at Penn State University and industry professionals.  Many programs are team taught by two or more instructors of different backgrounds to bring different perspectives into the training.

The PHRC invests in training their instructors to make sure they are prepared to provide the highest quality training.  For a list of instructors and their bio’s, visit the PHRC web-site.

Custom Programs:

The PHRC offers a wide array of training programs to meet our customer’s needs.  We realize you may have specialized needs and our existing programs may not meet them.

Programs can be customized from existing programs or can be a totally new program.  The content of existing programs can be modified to meet your needs (more technical, less technical, focusing on particular products, etc.).  The length of these programs can be as short as one hour to multiple days in length. The costs of these programs are based on the development time and the number of programs requested.

Programs can also be customized for the appropriate level  of the audience. For example, a program would have a     different content if addressing builders, code officials, trade contractors or design professionals.

The following are some of the organizations the PHRC has worked with to develop custom programs that meet their needs:
