Old Botany

Turn of the century campus expansion

In 1898, Andrew Carnegie offered $10,000 to build a library for teh University if the State promised matching funds annually for operations and aquisitions. After a nearly 4 year delay, the Carnegie Library Building (now just Carnegie) was begun and it opened in 1904. Here Old Botany is seen with the remains of the old barn foundations beyond it as they are removed for the Carnegie construction.
