Gardens in the Field

Looking north from the tower of the original Old Main in about 1880, Jackson House sat just east of the now mature formal gardens. The Botany department was shortly to get a new building behind these gardents, but for now all that existed on the sites of the Mall, Burrows and the rest of the campus to the north was forests and fields.
