The prestigious
and competitive Weiss Graduate Scholars Program brings together
selected doctoral candidates from the College
of Engineering and the College
of the Liberal Arts to exchange ideas that are beyond the boundaries
of their individual disciplines and to learn from distinguished guest
scholars.
With oversight by a faculty member from each college, the Weiss graduate scholars are encouraged to step beyond their sphere of inquiry to conduct research that will bridge the liberal arts and engineering. Because advances often occur at the boundaries between disciplines, bringing exceptional students together in a collaborative atmosphere holds great promise. The scholars write papers as well as present original research at bi-weekly forums. An interdisciplinary lecture series brings the Weiss Scholars - half from engineering and half from liberal arts - together to hear outstanding speakers from the U.S. and abroad. But most importantly, the Weiss scholars are afforded the benefit of learned inquiry from peers in various disciplines. In a culture that values fluency in ideas, the Weiss Scholars Program's unique partnership helps today's students prepare to be tomorrow's leaders. |
