Eligibility

Fellowship consideration is extended to full-time graduate students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their undergraduate degree programs in either engineering or the liberal arts. Scholars are selected for their broad interests and potential ability to bridge the two disciplines. A committee - jointly appointed by the deans of each college and including the associate deans for graduate studies - selects fellowship recipients each spring.

Students are considered for the Weiss Graduate Scholars Program based on the following four criterions:

First, they must have a record of demonstrated acheivements that should include superior grade-point average and Graduate Record Examination scores, honors standing, and undergraduate activities such as an internship, work experience, participation in conferences, and team research.

Second, they must show future academic promise, which should include participation in college committees and initiatives; leadership in student affairs, and a likelihood of strong placement pending their degree.

Third, they must provide evidence of academic or career objectives that reveals how the student's work will promote positive change, transcend disciplinary boundaries, lead to greater understanding between disparate fields, and influence scholarship in meaningful ways.

Finally, they must have demonstrated sufficient evidence of personal character and ethical behavior in the past that their inclusion will assure the reputation of this program.
