Commonwealth Campus E-Mentoring Program
What is the CWC E-Mentoring Program?
|
The CWC E-Mentoring Program is a new program offered by the Women in Engineering Program as part of the Commonwealth Campus Connection Initiative. It is designed to connect first- and second- year women engineering students at Commonwealth Campuses with upper-level women engineering students who relocated to University Park from a Commonwealth Campus. The goals of the program are to make the transition to Penn State University Park Campus a smoother one and to make connections with people already at University Park. The mentor is there to answer questions the younger student has about moving to University Park and to give advice about where to live, how to manage time, where to eat, what to do, etc. They might also offer advice about what classes to take, which professors to take, and so on. |
An email mentor is assigned to a commonwealth student by major first and then campus started at. We try to match people that have the same majors and/or started at the same campus. Once a match is made, the mentor should email the "mentee" and start corresponding through email.
Since this is a new program, we encourage the mentors and mentees to be creative. Other options to connect would include phone calls or going out to eat if you live close enough.
To welcome the relocating students to University Park, WEP will hold an Orientation Luncheon for both the women relocating and their mentors at the beginning of each semester. This luncheon provides a way to meet new people and get connected right away with other women engineering students at University Park. At the lunch, a round-table discussion will offer a way to learn about different engineering and other organizations on campus, majors, minors, and how to survive at UP. After lunch, individualized tours will be given to help the women find classes and other pertinent buildings on campus and around town. |
