Women in Engineering Program (WEPO)
WEPO is an exciting three-day, interactive orientation program for Penn State incoming engineering freshman. It is designed to introduce students to the College of Engineering, the Office of Engineering Diversity, and to Penn State. Students will take part in many activities, seminars, and workshops that will not only prepare them for success inside the classroom, but will also prepare them for a successful career in the engineering field. During WEPO you will stay at the Atherton Hotel with upper-level women engineering mentors. You also get to move into your residence hall ahead of other Univeristy Park students.
Facilitated Study Group
The Women in Engineering Program Facilitated Study Groups bring together small groups of first and second year engineering women, who are enrolled in the same courses, with an upper-level engineering facilitator. Study group members meet with the facilitator about once a week in order to go over homework problems, discuss conceptual questions, study for exams, and help students succeed in their courses.
Special housing options are a great way to meet friends with the same interests and coursework, find out more about engineering and engineering careers, and benefit from academic and social programs. Participation in the academic and social activities is expected of all residents of these special housing options. Housing options are typically located in designated floors or sections of a residence hall and programming includes things like tutoring or social and career development activities. Placement is based upon 1) student application and 2) the rules and practices that apply to that housing option.
