INTRODUCTION
For a
description of the conditions under which a change of location to University
Park is expected and approved for College of Engineering students, please go to
Student
Actions/Change of Location. This site describes the process through
which students must go to change to University Park and provides links to other
sites that contain special information to meet the special needs of change of
location (assignment) students. For any change to locations other than
University Park,
please contact that location.
There are
three paths for implementing a change of location (assignment) to University
Park. The main one is during the
Entrance-to-Major process during a student’s
pool
semester (for an explanation of these terms, please click on the link). The second is prior to the pool semester as a result of an
academic need to be at University Park. The academic justifications for an
early change of location (assignment) are described at
Student
Actions/Change of Location
and in the
Undergraduate Programs Guide. The third way is after the pool
semester, if a student had selected to remain at a campus college, with the
support of his or her major department. Each of these situations is described
below.
A. CHANGING TO UNIVERSITY PARK
AS PART OF THE
ENTRANCE-TO-MAJOR PROCESS
1. The approval for the
change of location to
University Park
is automatic for all students (except those granted early admission to
a major) who have been offered conditional
admission to a major at University Park during their pool semester and who
have completed at least 43.1 credits prior to the pool semester.
Students who were offered conditional admission to a UP major but who have
completed fewer than 43.1 credits and students who had been granted early
admission to a major, must submit a request to change location
with the Registrar at their campus. Approval will be given upon receipt of
the request.
2. Once approval for the
change of location is given, students may register for courses at UP via
e-Lion for the following fall semester. Students are advised to consult with
the undergraduate coordinator in their major for the appropriate selection of
courses.
3. Visit the
INTRO page for information
about making the transition to University Park. You will be referred to
information about resources, housing, and programs.
4. If you applied for
on-campus housing at UP and are interested in being considered for the College
of Engineering Special Living Option in McKee Hall (E-House), please submit a special
application at:
https://www.engr.psu.edu/ug/housing/housingform/form_b.htm
5. Make the arrangements to
move to University Park.
6. Participate in the
Orientation activities at University Park at the beginning of the Fall
semester and attend the College of Engineering and your department’s meetings
designed for change of location (assignment) students. These activities are
listed in the Orientation Express, a publication that should be sent to
you before you move to UP.
7. Make sure that you have
the identity of your advisor in your department and his or her contact
information. The undergraduate staff assistant in your department can help
you obtain the information about your advisor.
8. Make an appointment to
get acquainted with your advisor at the beginning of your first UP semester.
B. CHANGING TO
UNIVERSITY
PARK BEFORE THE
ENTRANCE-TO-MAJOR
PROCESS
1. If you feel that you have met
the conditions for early change of location (assignment) as described in
Student
Actions/Change of Location,
submit a request with the Registrar at your campus to change location. Your
request must contain your intended major and an academic
justification. For example, provide the courses that you think you need but
cannot get at your location to make adequate progress toward your intended
major.
2. If your request to change to
UP is approved, you will be able to register for courses at UP for the next
semester using e-Lion, beginning with date specified by the number of credits
you have. You are advised to consult with an advisor in the
Engineering
Advising Center
for the appropriate selection of courses at UP.
3. Visit the
INTRO
page for information about making the transition to University Park. You will
be referred to information about resources, housing, and programs.
4. Make the arrangements to move
to University Park.
5. Participate in the
Orientation activities at University Park at the beginning of your first
semester there and attend the College of Engineering meeting designed for
change-of-location students. These activities are listed in the
Orientation Express, a publication that should be sent to you before you
move to UP.
6. Make an appointment to see
the faculty advisor from your intended major in the
Engineering
Advising Center,
208 Hammond Bldg., 814-863-1033. Get to know that advisor and discuss your
courses and plans.
C. CHANGING TO UNIVERSITY PARK AFTER THE
ENTRANCE-TO-MAJOR
PROCESS
1. Students who have already
gone through the entrance-to-major process and have either been admitted to a
major or given an extension but selected to stay at their campus college
location, must submit a request to change location with the Registrar at their
campus.
2. Once approval for the change
of location (assignment) is given, students may register for courses at UP via
e-Lion for the following semester. Students should consult with their
assigned faculty advisor or the
undergraduate
coordinator in their major for the appropriate selection of courses at
UP.
3. Visit the
INTRO
page for information about making the transition to University Park. You will
be referred to information about resources, housing, and programs.
4. Make the arrangements to move
to University Park.
5. Participate in the
Orientation activities at University Park at the beginning of your first
semester there and attend the College of Engineering and your department’s
meetings designed for change of location (assignment) students. These
activities are listed in the Orientation Express, a publication that
should be sent to you before you move to UP.
6. Make sure that you have the
identity of your advisor in your department and his or her contact
information. The undergraduate staff assistant in your department can help
you obtain the information about your advisor.
7. Make an appointment to get
acquainted with your advisor at the beginning of your first UP semester.
