Branch of the American Society of Agricultural
Engineers (ASAE) This student organization hosts activities designed to introduce participants
to Agricultural and Biological Engineering. Activities include speakers, field trips, and
interaction with faculty and industry professionals.
The ASAE, the Society for Engineering in Agriculture, Food, and Biological Systems, is a not-for-profit worldwide
professional and technical organization of members interested in engineering knowledge and
technology for food and agriculture, associated industries, and related resources. ASAE coordinates educational opportunities
such as technical sessions, workshops, conferences, and tours at ASAE and other Society
meetings withthe purpose of communicating new research results, discussing applications,
and stimulating debate on important topics related to the collection of renewable resources and the processing
of these resources for conversion to energy and industrial products.

Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
Penn State's Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is one of the
most active professional organizations on campus. There are activities almost every week of the
school year which are both social and professional in nature. Social activities include
student/faculty mixers, picnics, tailgates at home football games, and more. Professional
activities include company presentations, plant trips, research paper competitions, and more.

Omega Chi Epsilon (Honor Society)
Omega chi Epsilon is the Honor Society for Chemical Engineering students. Membership is by invitation
from the officers of the Chapter to outstanding undergraduate students, and is based on
the academic achievements of those students. membership entails active participation in a variety
of projects aimed at improving the academic performance of Chemical Engineering undergraduates
and encouraging students to consider entering graduate schools. A prime example of this support
is free tutoring, which the Chapter provides in lower level Chemical Engineering courses.
The time and place of such tutoring services is posted each semester on the Omega Chi Epsilon
bulletin board.

Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
The Student Chapter of the American Society of civil Engineers (ASCE) is a professional
society for all students enrolled in civil engineering and freshmen and sophomores interested
in civil engineering. This organization was established to expand the college experience for students
in civil engineering and aid in establishing the professional contacts that are so valuable
to the practicing engineer. Student Chapter members hold offices, secure speakers for
Chapter meetings, participate in the Concrete Canoe races and Steel Bridge competitions, visit
engineering works, attend professional meetings, present papers, and keep abreast of
professional activities through ASCE publications. These activities stimulate early
professional consciousness and prepare students for entry into the profession and into the
American Society of Civil Engineers.

Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS)
The Penn State Student Chapter of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS)
promotes understanding and interest in the application of advanced technologies to transportation
systems. Student members investigate issues ranging from user needs to the potential benefits of advanced technologies toward transportation
in Central Pennsylvania.

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is a professional organization of students
interested in Transportation and Traffic Engineering. A number of meetings are held each
year, with representatives from transportation firms and agencies serving as guest speakers.

National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
An official Student Chapter of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) exists
at Penn State. Interested students majoring in civil and architectural engineering
and architecture are encouraged to join the Penn State Student Chapter. A number of meetings are
held each year, with prominent representatives of the residential and light building
construction industry serving as guest speakers. Several scholarships are awarded
each year at an Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet.

Environmental Engineering Society (EES)
The Environmental Engineering Society (EES) organizes activities and programs that deal with
environmental issues, provides information about employment and graduate opportunities, participates in environmentally
responsible projects, creates opportunities for networking among students and alumni
who are involved in environmental engineering. The group has bi-monthly meetings with
speakers. Activities include group trips to national meetings and job fairs, tutoring groups,
and participation in student activity fairs at Penn State.

Chi Epsilon (Honor Society)
Chi Epsilon is a national honor society for juniors and seniors enrolled in civil engineering.
Membership is by invitation and is based on scholarship, character, practicality, and sociability.
The purpose of this organization is to recognize and develop the fundamental
characteristics of the successful civil engineer.

Eta Kappa Nu Association is the honor society for electrical and computer engineers.
Penn State's chapter, founded in 1905, is the fifth oldest in the nation. Its activities
include weekly tutoring sessions, a year-end awards banquet, and various seminars
on topics such as choosing 400-level electives and planning for graduate school. Membership
in EKN is by invitation.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the professional society of electrical
engineering, has an active student branch at Penn State that sponsors a number of technical presentations,

Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE)
This society sponsors special seminars, day-long technical conferences for students,
and nominates students for the SAMPE Annual Graduate Research Competition. Activities cover
a broad range of areas, including composite materials for aerospace and other applications,
robotics, and environmentally-conscious manufacturing.

SME is an international professional society dedicated to serving its members and the manufacturing

American Foundry Society (AFS)
The AFS student chapter is for students in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Metal
Science and Engineering, and in other departments who are interested in metal casting.
The AFS student chapter sponsors a summer internship job fair, provides scholarship support
for students interested in metal casting, and provides many opportunities for students
to interact with industry engineers and executives. First and second year students
are encouraged to participate.

American Society of Quality Control (ASQC)
Since 1946, ASQC has been a leader in identifying, communicating, and promoting the use
of quality concepts, principles, and technologies. ASQC is an excellent source for
information on topics ranging from total quality management (TQM) and statistical
process control (SPC), to benchmarking and leadership.

Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES)
HFES is concerned with the characteristics of humans that are applicable to the design
and evaluation of systems and devices. This student affiliate chapter of the national HFES
has undergraduate and graduate student members from a broad variety of disciplines
across Penn State. Activities include guest speakers as well as field trips to
organizations that are involved in human factors engineering and ergonomics projects.
