Study Abroad Programs

Architectural engineering is an international network, as building design, planning, and construction know no boundaries. We provide our AE students with the education, expertise, and tools they need to excel as a globally engaged engineer.

In addition to the study abroad programs offered through the College of Engineering Global Education and Penn State Global Programs, the Department of Architectural Engineering offers faculty-led programs in China and Rome to provide AE students with a summer of global learning and experience.

Why study abroad?

More than 40 percent of our undergraduate architectural engineering students participate in the China and Rome study abroad programs.

Participating in an AE study abroad program allows students to:

  • enrich their studies with instruction in various disciplines within the context of other cultures
  • expand their knowledge of the people and culture of a country or region
  • receive an experience that will enhance their personal, academic, and professional development
  • increase their international understanding

Spending a summer abroad does not negatively impact a student’s progress in the program — instead it provides credits towards the major.
