6 credits of Water Resources Electives
6 credits of Technical Electives
6 credits of thesis research (CE 600)

Core Curriculum

The core curriculum provides students with a comprehensive foundation in water-resources topics including hydrology, hydraulics, and river mechanics. Students who have previously completed equivalent classes may substitute additional water resources or technical electives in their place.

C E 462 - Open Channel Hydraulics
C E 555 - Groundwater Hydrology
C E 561 - Fundamentals of Surface Hydrology
C E 564 - Sediment Transport

Water Resources Electives

Water Resources electives allow students to develop additional expertise in their areas of specialization.

C E 551 - Random Processes in Hydrologic Systems
C E 552 - Coastal and Nearshore Processes
C E 556 - Tracer and Contaminant Transport in Groundwater
C E 566 - Uncertainty and Reliability in Civil Engineering
C E 567 River Engineering
C E 580 - Hydrodynamic Mixing Processes
C E 597 - Advanced Fluid Mechanics
C E 597 Computational Modeling with OpenFOAM

Technical Electives

Technical electives outside the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering allow students to develop breadth by obtaining expertise in related fields. Courses such as atmospheric science, geoscience, ecology, applied statistics, and agriculture may be of particular interest. Students interested in satisfying their technical elective requirements with classes outside the department should discuss this option with their academic advisers. For information on the content and scheduling of the classes listed below, please visit the web pages of the individual departments.
