IE 550: MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS

The goal of this course is to introduce graduate students to the practice of Product, Process and Production Engineering.
IE 550 is a graduate course that builds onto students understanding of design, manufacturing processes and production control. The course begins with an overview of product, process and production engineering activities. Once the overview is completed, the specifics of product specification are undertaken. Upon completion of engineering specification, the linkage to product and process engineering is explored. Following this activity, a full investigation of process engineering is undertaken with a specific focus on the economics of manufacturing and process engineering. The course concludes with an introduction to production engineering and shop-floor control.

IE 450 is specified as a prerequisite for the course. All students taking the class should have completed a course in manufacturing processes, where traditional metal cutting activities were covered.
