There is a major current and future need for engineers in the service sector of the economy. Services are, by far, the largest segment of the economy. In my view, this lack of engineering in the service delivery process is a major reason for the chronic low quality and productivity in many service businesses. The service sector represents a vast frontier for engineering students of the future.
