Maintaining Eligibility as a Leonhard Scholar

Students chosen as Leonhard Scholars will receive a merit-based scholarship award of $2,900 per semester for up to eight semesters, providing the following guidelines are met:

  1. Students must continue to be enrolled full-time in the College of Engineering at Penn State.
  2. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  3. Students must volunteer for service that supports their engineering program and/or the College of Engineering. Examples of past service include participation in recruitment events, orientation events, and assisting at the Career Fair.


The William & Wyllis Leonhard Engineering Scholars Program is a merit-based scholarship program for outstanding students in the College of Engineering. Through the Leonhards' generosity, this program offers students of exceptionally high ability and motivation an opportunity for study, financial support, leadership development, and enhancement activities at one of the nation's premier colleges of engineering. The overall goal of the program is to assist students in becoming World-Class Engineers.
