Course Reflection:

This senior thesis has provided valuable real world experience in our fields. The work we have done this year will be similar to the work we will be doing in our new jobs. This thesis has prepared us for the tasks and challenges ahead of us.

In my thesis, I chose to use a high rise building. I chose to use a high rise building because this is the area I want my career to be focused in. To me, the skyscraper is the epitimy of structural engineering, and I feel, working on the Borgata for my thesis project has given me a jump start in the high rise building design. On the other hand, using a high rise building for this thesis had limited me in my scope. Since the building was so large, I was limited in what I was able to do, and the work load that it created. If I were to take senior thesis again, I would limit the building size, so that I would not limit the scope of my thesis project.

CPEP

The senior thesis portfolio was a great way to keep track of assignments, tasks and due dates. Without the online portfolio, I can guarantee some assignments would have been forgotten or missed.

Discussion Board

The discussion board was extremely useful tool. It is a link to the experience and knowledge of professionals that have been handling the problems that arise during senior thesis for many years. The discussion board should be used in the future years for the AE Senior Thesis Program.

User Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in‐progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Christopher Ankeny. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.

This is a student-generated Capstone Project e-Portfolio (CPEP) produced in conjunction with the AE Senior Thesis e-Studio.
The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web-based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year-long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural Engineering. For an explanation of this capstone design course and its requirements, click here.
