About David S. Finley

David Finley graduated valedictorian in 2003 from Burrell High School in Lower Burrell, PA.  Upon graduation, he enrolled in the Architectural Engineering program at The Pennsylvania State University.  Dave will graduate in May 2008 with a Bachelor and Master of Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis.

During Dave’s final years at Burrell High School, he interned with Structural Detailers Inc., a local structural steel detailer utilized by east coast structural steel fabricators.  His work included drafting and modeling steel connections and members for shop fabrication.  Once at Penn State, Dave quickly found his niche in structural forensics, building technology, and historical preservation.  He interned with Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE), a prestigious “firm of structural engineers, architects, and materials scientists dedicated to providing practical, innovative, and technically sound solutions to problems in existing structures.”  WJE has given Dave experience and knowledge in existing structural deficiencies, repair design, façade inspections, water testing, structural inspections, failure analysis, and Industrial Rope Access training.  He continued his experience with the company for three consecutive summers and has accepted to become a full-time employee with the company upon graduation.

While residing in the dormitories, Dave became involved with his house organization, Engineering and Applied Sciences Interest House (EASI), and was elected treasurer for the 2003-2004 term.  Upon acceptance into the Architectural Engineering major, he became involved in the Student Society of Architectural Engineers as treasurer during the 2004-2005 term followed by a term as President.  Dave has also been inducted in the Architectural Engineering Honor Society, Phi Alpha Epsilon.

Since the age of 15, Dave has had an interest in the sport of bowling.  He joined a competitive league immediately that led to his keen curiosity with the technology and practice of bowling for many years.  He has bowled competitively and helped lead the United States to victory over other teams from Wales and England.  The event was hosted in London, England in the summer of 2002.  Dave has bowled two perfect 300 games, three 299 games, and a high three game series of 833 during his brief bowling career.  Starting at the age of 17, he was one of the youngest pro shop operators, who sell and drill bowling equipment and teach the fundamentals to beginners.  While his studies have caused a hiatus in his competitive bowling, he will return to his hobby upon graduation.  Dave also enjoys golfing, rock climbing, and debating politics.
