Welcome to Sandra DiRupo's AE Senior Thesis e-Portfolio!

Student Biography

Sandra DiRupo is a 5th year student studying Architectural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University.  The program has four options within the major:  Structural, Lighting/Electrical, Mechanical, and Construction Management.  With diverse internship experience, she has decided to focus in the field of Construction Management.   Sandra will graduate in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering in the five year ABET accredited program.

In Summer 2007, Sandra was hired as an intern for the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in Baltimore, MD.  She worked on site at the Loyola/Notre Dame Library expansion and renovation project, where she gained valuable knowledge of the construction industry.  Before that she worked for Wallace & Pancher, Inc., an Environmental Engineering company in Hermitage, PA, where she learned the importance of site engineering for building construction.

After graduation, she plans to put her knowledge and past experiences to good use. She has accepted a full time job with Turner Construction beginning in September 2008. Design-Build, Mixed-use development, LEED projects, and high rise office and/or apartment buildings are a few of her interests, in terms of project scope. She hopes to obtain her LEED Accredidation in the near future; she is very interested in sustainable design and construction.

When Sandra is not busy with school or work, she enjoys spending time with friends and family.  She is from Hermitage, a town in western Pennsylvania north of Pittsburgh.  She attended Hickory High School, where she laid the foundation for her future studies in the field of engineering.  Sandra had always taken accelerated math and science courses along with architectural drawing classes since she started high school.  She knew that she wanted to enter the field of architecture or engineering upon graduation from an early age.  Little did she know she would have the best of both worlds!

Before entering the workforce, Sandra plans on taking a two week trip through Europe with some of her fellow students.
