Depth:

  • Ground Source Heat Pump: An analysis of a direct exchange system as well as a well system will be analyzed.
  • Air Source Heat Pump: An analysis of an air source heat pump system will be used for analysis.
  • Automated Natural Ventilation: A study of the benifits of using a hybrid automated natural and mechanical ventilation system.
Breadth:
  • Architecture: An analysis of the effect of the natural ventilation system on the amount of glazing required and an analysis of the heat gain by the building envelope will be analyzed.
  • Lighting: A daylighting study will be performed to analyze the effect this system has on the size of the mechanical system.
Masters:
  • AE552 Indoor Air Quality: The effect of using a ground source water system as opposed to the designed air system on the air quality of the building will be analyzed as well as the reduction in building emissions by utilizing the heat pump system instead of fossil fuel boilers.
  • AE 557 Central Cooling Systems: The effect of using a ground source heat pump and air source heat pump instead of the designed variable air volume system will be analyzed.
  • AE 558 Central Heating Systems: The effect of using a ground source heat pump and air source heat pump instead of the designed fossil fuel boilers.

Resume

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Amanda Cronauer. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design
