MICHAEL GALLAGHER’S

STUDENT BIO.

 

 

Michael Gallagher is currently in his 5th year of study in the Architectural Engineering Program at Penn State University.  In May 2011, he will graduate with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree, with a focus in construction management.  Besides his studies, Michael is also very involved in extracurricular activities.  He is currently the Treasurer of DBIA (Design Build Institute of America) and is also involved in S:PACE (Student Chapter of the Partnership for Achieving Construction Excellence).  Sports have also been a very big part of his life.  In high school, Michael was captain of his soccer team and helped to achieve the accomplishment of two state championships with his lacrosse team.  He currently participates in intramural sports on a regular basis at Penn State.

 

During the past two summers Michael had the opportunity to Intern with Turner Construction in the New Jersey division.  Both summers he worked on a 265,000 SF chemistry building for Princeton University with the superintendents.  Through this, Michael gained a lot of valuable experience with dealing with subcontractors, coordination, problem solving, scheduling, and takeoffs.  Michael also had the opportunity to study abroad in Rome, Italy with the Penn State AE department.  Through this 7 week 12 credit intense academic program he learned how ancient structures were built, their basis for design, and received an Architectural Studies Minor.  He also experienced a lot of different cultures throughout this trip which made him more of a well-rounded individual.
