Revised AE 482 Mechanical Project Proposal

This proposal revises the original by changing and increasing the details of the window replacement for the architectural breadth.  In addition the discussion of the ground source heat pump system has been updated for accuracy and the change from a constant air volume system to a variable air volume system has been made optional instead of required.

Architectural Breadth

As an architectural breadth, a full window replacement will be performed on all three buildings.  This will increase the aesthetics of the buildings but also have the added effect of reducing the envelope loads experienced by the mechanical systems.  This is because by installing windows with better glazing and higher U-values, the heat loss in the winter months and the heat gain in the summer months will be reduced.

Construction Management Breadth

For a construction management breadth, the added cost length of schedule for the renovation will be evaluated.  By adding in a geothermal heating and cooling system, terminal boxes for a variable air volume system and a full window replacement, the cost of the renovation will inevitably increase along with the length of the schedule.  The goal will be to limit the amount of increase.

AE 482 Mechanical Project Proposal

This proposal described the possible alterations to the mechanical system.  Included is the opportunity for renewable energy in the form of a geothermal heating and cooling system, the change of a constant air volume system to a variable air volume system as well as architectural and construction management breadth studies.
