MATTHEW HOERNER

Reflection

The AE senior thesis was a positive education experience. I think that the senior thesis is a great way for seniors to apply all of the knowledge that they acquired over the past five years to a real world project. It allows students to be creative, analyze projects and determine the effectiveness of decisions while examining other options to complete a task. The freedom to conduct this work allowed for an in depth investigation into particular areas of constructability and technology implementation. I feel that this experience will be an important part of my professional career and help set my engineering abilities apart from my peers in the industry.

CPEP Reflection

The CPEP website was an interactive approach to documenting all of the work that was completed in AE 481W/482. It allowed for people to view the work that I was completing in a very easy to access format. I thought it was a beneficial addition to the program. The difficulty was that the website was not as emphasized for the team senior thesis, so updating the information did not occur regularly.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐inprogress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of the UNITUS design team. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web‐based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year‐long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural Engineering. For an explanation of this capstone design course and its requirements click here.
