  Nexus Report



























Nexus' final structural design report was submitted to the AEI National Competition Jury on February 22, 2013. This report contains a 15-page narrative description of our building's structural system design. Nineteen pages of supporting documentation and 7 pages of plan-size drawings are also included.

The structural team's design decisions were driven by a number of factors, but they were primarily motivated by the designers' goals to offer a building that provides cost-efficiency, fosters a safe learning environment, and incorporates an integrated design approach. By adhering to these principles, the strutural engineers were able to develop unique solutions for the numerous challenges that were faced. The end result is a high-performance building that also uses its structural features to provide advantages for the design of the mechanical systems and the construction process. Furthermore, the end solution is one that reduces the overall cost of the building in both the short and long term.

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web‐based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year‐long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural Engineering.
