Our Team

Dr. Obonyo is the Director of the Global Building Network, a partnership between the UNECE and Penn State. She is also an Associate Professor of Engineering Design and Architectural Engineering. Dr Obonyo was a 2015/ 2016 Jefferson Science Fellow placed with the USAID Global Development Lab in DC. Between August 2004 and July 2015, she was a faculty member at the University of Florida's (UF) Rinker School of Construction Management. Dr. Obonyo has extensive industry experience, having worked as a Construction Engineer, Project Manager and Innovations Analyst in several engineering and construction companies in Kenya, the United Kingdom and the United States. Her work has been disseminated through over 100 journal papers, conference proceedings and presentations. She is on the editorial board of three Journals – Journal of IT in Construction, Buildings and Intelligent Systems. She was also guest editor for the Journal of Sustainability.  
Dr. Peter F. Masibo Lumala is a Visiting Professor at Brian Lamb School of Communication, Purdue University where is teaching Intercultural Communication, Communication Information and Society, and Global Public Relations. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the School of Information Sciences, Moi University, Kenya. He has over 14 years of teaching Gender and Communication, Advocacy and Campaigns, and New Media Technologies and Strategic Communication. He has published widely in the areas of Gender, Media and Communication and Culture. He is currently working on an edited Handbook of Communication in Africa, Besides academia, Dr Masibo sits on a number of School Management Boards in Kenya, has served as a Director for the Kenya Tourism Research Institute and was recently appointed as a Member of the Africa Tourism Board based in Pretoria, South Africa. 
Anna Konotchick is the Director of Housing and Human Settlements for Habitat for Humanity International’s Asia Pacific regional office. She leads a technical team that supports programs across 17 countries related to disaster response and resilience, land tenure security improvements, urban planning, housing policy, and housing construction. Between 2010 and 2018, she worked in Haiti on post-earthquake response, recovery and reconstruction with Habitat for Humanity, the World Bank, and the American Red Cross. Based upon these experiences in Haiti, she has co-written the chapter “Haiti’s Disaster Urbanisms: The Emerging City of Canaan” in the book Informal Urbanisation. She completed her two masters’ degrees from the University of California Berkeley in Architecture and City and Regional Planning; her thesis was supported by USAID OFDA and Interaction and examined self-recovery mechanisms after the Haitian earthquake, and its interaction with humanitarian aid. Prior to Haiti, she received her Bachelors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and worked in architectural design in New Orleans, New York and Buenos Aires. 
Rebecca Ochong is currently the Senior Manager – Urban Land & Policy for the Asia Pacific region at Habitat for Humanity International where she serves as the key technical specialist in areas of security tenure, housing and land policies and practices. With more than 20 years experience in the land and housing sector, she has been instrumental in strengthening security tenure, housing and land policies and practices at national, regional and global levels. She has also co-authored and contributed to more than 30 publications, articles and conference papers on land governance and property rights. Previously, she worked as a land governance expert at UN-Habitat’s Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) where she was instrumental in developing various land tools as well as building capacity of key government actors and other land stakeholders to improve implementation of innovative, pro-poor and gender responsive land management practices and policies.  
Enid Madarcos is the urban policy manager in the Asia-Pacific office of Habitat for Humanity International. For the past 10 years, she worked on livelihood development and housing finance in urban communities in the Philippines. She recently finished her research on the role of state-led ownership housing policies in the spatial restructuring and the fulfillment of housing rights of informal settlement families in metro Manila.
