Brian Goodykoontz

Biography
Brian Goodykoontz is currently in his fifth year of study in the Architectural Engineering program, specializing in construction management at The Pennsylvania State University.  He will graduate in May 2009 with an Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s of Architectural Engineering.

Over the past two years, Brian has worked on several construction projects with Barton Malow Company performing various tasks which have improved his understanding of the construction industry and improved his construction management abilities.

Brian finds time to participate in numerous extra-curricular activities when he is not working on his coursework.  For the past 3 years Brian has been involved with the Penn State Concrete Canoe Team, serving as President and Co-President in his 4th and 5th years. In his 4th year Brian served as the Treasurer for the student chapter of the Partnership for Achieving Construction Excellence (PACE) and continues to be active with the organization.  He also serves as the Construction Project Manager for Penn State’s 2009 Solar Decathlon entry, the Natural Fusion Project. All of these extra-curricular activities afforded Brian invaluable hands-on experience with many of the principals that he has learned about in classes.

In April 2007, Brian successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam which will allow him to obtain engineer-in-training status upon graduation.  Before he graduates in May, Brian hopes to become a LEED Accredited Professional by successfully passing the USGBC LEED Professional Accreditation Exam.   Upon graduation, Brian will help see the Natural Fusion Project through to completion after which he will go to work for Barton Malow in the Baltimore/Washington area as a project engineer.
