AE 481 REFLECTION

The first semester of senior thesis was very research intensive and involved the writing of several detailed technical reports as well as well as a thesis proposal. Writing the technical reports required hours of research consisting of shuffling through plans and specifications as well as speaking with members of the design team. Being forced to meet deadlines was a challenge, but it also ensured that I did not fall behind at all on the project. Overall, I believe that the extensive research and resulting reports gave me a lot of knowledge about my project which ultimately made the second half of senior thesis much easier than it would have been if I had not gathered so much background information.

AE 482 REFLECTION

The second half of senior thesis was labor intensive, but not as much so as the first half. Being able to refer back to technical reports and other information from the first half of thesis made it easy to find information. The hardest part about the second half of thesis was that their were no real deadlines to make sure that I was on track. Basically the only deadlines that we had were weekly updates that provided only limited feedback to the faculty members reviewing them. Not having any real deadlines made it difficult to manage time. Although it was difficult, I was able to get an early start on my final report and stayed busy throughout the semester so that the work did not build up in the final few weeks before the final presentation was due. I believe that having a sense of urgency from the beginning, and staying on top of my work were key in me being able to finish my final report on time, without having to rush at the end to finish it.

CPEP REFLECTION

The CPEP experience was a real learning experience for me. Heading into the year I had only had very limited knowledge about web-design. This made it very challenging for me from the beginning just to get simple links to work. After a few weeks of messing around with the program "Dreamweaver" I felt much more confident in my abilities. Although my web-design skills are far from where I would like them to be, I am still very proud of what I was able to accomplish considering that in the fall I never would have seen this being possible. Being able to post everything from thesis on the CPEP site is very convenient. Having all of my work accessible from any location without having to shuffle through hundreds of papers is a huge benefit. Being able to organize everything on a website is a benefit not only to myself, but also to faculty or anyone else who is interested in seeing my progress.
