Reflection

The Architectural Engineering Senior Thesis program has provided the opportunity to bring together all of the knowledge gained in all of the five years here at Penn State.  By working together with members from all four options within an integrated thesis group, I have been able to develop my skills in communication and coordination.  Having all of the members of the group work together to contribute to a series of overall group goals.  Through specialized knowledge provided by each of the group members, we were able to compose four system redesigns in order to increase the profitability and marketability of the New York Times Building.

The huge benefit that I found was the knowledge that I gained about each of the other students’ process of analysis and what is needed by each of the students in order to achieve the overall group goals.  I have learned a lot about working in interdisciplinary groups.  I believe that this will help me once I get out into the industry.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Matthew Hedrick. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the orignial design conatined errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
