This website is designed to display the work of John Scavelli's Senior Thesis, which exemplifies his thorough understanding of Architectural Engineering through the study of the New York Police Academy.
John is a student in The Pennsylvania State University's Department of Architectural Engineering. The Architectural Engineering (AE) program at Penn State is one of the premier AE programs in the world that offers a comprehensive education in structural, electrical/lighting, and mechanical building systems along with construction management practices. As a student, John has chosen to specialize in the mechanical building systems option.
John has had experience in the design, construction, and research of building systems. He has learned the fundamentals of mechanical design and the energy analysis through his education at Penn State. He has also had experience with the implementation and contracting of mechanical building systems. John spent a summer working for Pierce Associates. Pierce Associates is a company responsible for the fabrication, installation, and design-assist of large scale mechanical systems in the Washington D.C. Area. During the academic year John also has spend a considerable amount of time working for the University's Architectural Engineering Research Laboratory. He has been able to balance a heavy course load along with assisting in structural and mechanical graduate research. He is currently working on the design of an ASHRAE funded project, known as the Controlled Exposure Experimentation Reactors and Ambient Response Facility.
Overall, John is a well rounded Architectural Engineering student. John is a well versed Architectural Engineering student who has had experience in the design, research, and contracting of mechanical systems. He will be graduating in May of 2011 with a Master of Architectural Engineering, Bachelor of Architectural Engineer, along with a minor in Architecture. He is looking forward to becoming an Engineer in Training upon graduation and contributing to the professional world of Architectural Engineering. John has accepted an offer to work for one of the top international engineering firms, ARUP. ARUP takes pride in providing a broad range of engineering service wth a strong focus on excellence and sustainability. John will be working out of ARUP's New York City office and is looking forward to joining the professional engineering industry.
