Hi! My name is Max Chien and I would like to take the time to welcome you to my website!

I was born in the city of Taipei, Taiwan and moved to New York City when I was five. Even though I've only spent a little bit of my life in Taiwan, I still recall fond memories of my early childhood in Taipei. When I was five, my parents packed up their bags and moved to America. We settled in Queens, New York next to our grand aunt and her family. Without knowing a word of english, I attended PS 102 and started kindergarten. Two years later down the road my brother Jeffrey was born and after spending four years in Queens, my parents decided to move again. This time, we ended up in Livingston, New Jersey, twenty miles outside of New York City.

I spent basically the rest of my life there and welcomed in my second brother Jackie in 2001. Now in 2007, my parents and my younger brothers have moved again down to Frisco, Texas, while I am still located back in New Jersey and my sister is attending medical school in New York.

In 2006, I was able to travel abroad and study in rome for the summer. To this day, it is still one of the most memorable moments of my life. Being able to immerse myself in a completely different culture and live somewhere so beautiful and with so much history has opened up my appetite to traveling and to world cultures. Some other things i also value and enjoy are sustainable design, modern art, coffee, cultures, traveling, cooking, dining and interior design.

As my college career is coming close to an end, I am looking forward in the next chapter of my life. Having worked for three summers and two winters for AE and MEP firms in New York City, I have gained a lot of valuable insight into the industry. Cannon Design and AMA were great companies where I gained great knowledge on calculations, design, and product selection. Penn State has also allowed me to grow as an adult and discover what my interest is and most importantly, how I want to live my life.

UPDATE 1.28.2008:

Upon graduation, I will be traveling back to Taiwan for three weeks visiting relatives. Soon after, I will be working for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago as a full time mechanical engineer assistant. I am very excited for this new opportunity and I am looking forward to moving to Chicago!
