Biographical Sketch

Caitlin Hanzel is currently a fifth year undergraduate student, studying Architectural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University.  Focusing on building mechanical systems, she will graduate in May 2009, with a bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering.  Caitlin will also receive a minor in Architecture Studies, which was made possible through the completion of additional credits during Penn State’s 2007 Sede di Roma summer abroad program.

During her time spent at Penn State, Caitlin has been involved in various university activities, including ASHRAE, SSAE, THON, Blue & White Society and the AE student envoy program.  Caitlin has also upheld duties as a teaching assistant for the Fundamentals of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning class (AE310), instructed by Jim Fraihaut, and is currently a member of both the Tau Beta Pi and Phi Alpha Epsilon Engineering Honor Societies.

Over the past three summers, Caitlin has gained valuable work experience through her internships at Tower Engineering, a small MEP design firm in her hometown of Pittsburgh, and most recently, at Michael Baker Associates, a world-wide professional engineering and consulting firm, located in Moon Township, PA.  These opportunities not only provided her with insight to successful HVAC design, but also assisted in accelerating her passion for sustainability.

Her future career aspirations include working as a mechanical designer, becoming LEED certified and eventually obtaining her Professional Engineering (PE) license
