Technical Assignment 1

The purpose of this report is to examine the structural concepts and existing conditions of Best Buy Corporate Building D and to use those concepts and conditions to interpret the structural design of the building. In more detail the report discusses the structural conditions of Best Buy Corporate Building D through a comprehensive description of the foundation, floor, gravity and main lateral systems. This detail is achieved by completing a summary of all relevant building codes and materials used in the building as well as using ASCE 7-05 to identify the dead, live, snow, wind and gravity loads that the structure is subjected to.

Technical Assignment 2

This report is an analysis of possible alternate floor systems for Best Buy Corporate Building D found in Richfield, MN. After analyzing the existing system, feasible alternate systems were chosen and considered for the building’s floor system. Advantages and disadvantages were derived and studied to determine if each system was worth further investigation.

Technical Assignment 3

Technical report 3 is an analysis of the main lateral load resisting system that exists in Best Buy Corporate Building 4. The steel lateral braces were analysed under both wind and seismic loading cases for shear and axial forces, overturning moments, and story drift.
