AE 481W/482 Reflection

Over the past two semesters within the AE Senior Thesis program I have been able to gain valuable information about the design and construction process. Being able to examine construction documents and perform investigations into current building systems has provided me with knowledge on how to analyze a system that has been already designed. Taking this background knowledge and using it to create and redesign systems has expanded my design knowledge and increased my ability to solve problems with creative solutions.

I enjoyed having the flexibility to create my own work schedule and deadlines during the semester. Being able to manage my own schedule during the whole semester enabled me to see first hand how to change and reorganize it when tasks took longer than anticipated and were not completed on time. Having to work independently on large system redesigns has proven to me that my educational background has adequately prepared me for tasks I will encounter within my engineering career.

CPEP Reflection

Having to create a website to publicly display the work done throughout the Senior Thesis program is beneficial not only in the skill of website design but provides an easy way to share the work that has been completed. Also, previous websites that have been created provide a valuable tool for current students to learn from the work that other students have done in past semesters. The discussion board was no utilized during either of the semesters. I always felt that it was easier to gather answers from advisors within the department than trying to explain complicated questions through email.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in‐progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Justin Herzing. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design
