Student Biography

Ryan Wise is currently a 5th year Architectural Engineering student at Penn State University in the lighting/electrical option. Ryan is also a member of Penn State's IES (illuminating engineering society) chapter.

He first became interested with architecture in high school where he took an architectural drafting course. Ryan also took interest in two electronics courses he took in high school. In his senior year at Cocalico High School in Denver, PA, Ryan decided that he wanted to pursue an education in architectural engineering because of his interest in both the design and creative aspect of architecture, and the mathematical aspect of engineering. After learning more about the option areas of study in his major, Ryan realized that the lighting/electrical option was the perfect choice because it incorporated his other interest of electronics. Ryan has taken the most interest to the lighting area of study, because it allows him to put his creative side to use. Lighting design is not only creating a lighting system, it is designing a look and feel to a space.

In the summer of 2006, Ryan studied abroad in Rome, Italy. The main focus was architecture, however he also gained a lot of valuable knowledge about different cultures of the world. It was an experience he will never forget. In addition to his love of travel, Ryan also enjoys fishing, tennis, golf, and playing guitar in his free time.
