FINAL REPORT

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the
pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐inprogress
for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and
construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Joshua Martz. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was
flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been

The Final Report contains information pertaining to the analyses that were done.

Ground Source Heat Pumps:

A study of ground source heat pumps was done to replace the chiller system and the boiler system separately to compare which would save the building in first cost, energy, and operating cost.

Chilled Beams:

A study was done to compare the energy usage of chilled beams to the already imployed fan coil units for the laboratories. Also a run-around coil system was analyzed to replace the existing heat wheels in the air handling units for these spaces.

Construction Management Breadth:

A study was done to compare the costs, number of boreholes, and schedule impact of replacing central plant with ground source heat pumps.

Electrical Breadth:

A study was done to size feeders, panelboards and switchboard for the heat pumps being added to the system.
