Student Biography

Stephanie Deckard is in her 5th year of Architectural Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University with a focus in lighting and electrical design.  She will graduate with a Bachelor’s of Architectural Engineering in May 2013 with her EIT status. 


Stephanie’s professional experiences include summer internships at AE Works in Pittsburgh, PA and EwingCole in Philadelphia, PA.  Her most recent experience was as a lighting design intern at EwingCole, a fully integrated architecture, engineering, interior design and planning firm.  At EwingCole Stephanie gained valuable experience using programs such as Daysim, AGI 32, COMcheck and AutoCAD.  She assisted in multiple daylighting design projects as well as performing cost analysis and luminaire performance calculations for luminaire selection purposes.  Ms. Deckard, after receiving her EIT status upon graduation, plans to get her Professional Engineering license, her Lighting Consultant certification, and become a LEED Accredited Professional, while working in the industry as a lighting designer.


Stephanie is involved in several professional and social clubs on campus such as the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and Penn State’s Dance Marathon (THON).  She is currently the Secretary of the Penn State Chapter of IES and is traveling to Vancouver in October on a student traveling stipend for the International Association of Lighting Designers’ (IALD) annual conference.  Over the past four years Stephanie’s involvement in THON has included the Operations committee, Ohana and on the THON committee for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).  Stephanie also enjoys other activities outside of school such as traveling, photography and writing poetry.
