Student Biography

Gregory B. Kochalski

After graduating with honors from Thomas Worthington High School in 2002, Greg decided on pursuing his interests of architecture and the sciences at Penn State.  Once enrolled, he was immediately drawn to the Architectural Engineering Department and the Structural Engineering option. Structural engineering allows him to utilize his design skills while employing his talents in engineering.

Greg has completed eight semesters of the five year ABET accredited AE program and one semester of the integrated Master and Bachelor of AE program. During his tenure, he has become and active participant in several extracurricular organizations that helped form excellent prioritizing skills. For instance, while competing with the Penn State boxing team, serving as the vice president of SEA-PSU, and volunteering for Coaches vs. Cancer Association Greg still found the time necessary to earn Dean’s List merit. He looks forward to studying the JW Marriott hotel throughout his senior thesis and hopes to investigate the seismic capabilities of the building.  

In the future Greg wishes build upon the knowledge he learned this past summer and into the fall while working for the American Institute of Steel Construction. AISC provided a unique opportunity to gain intimate knowledge of the steel code. After seeing the regulatory side of structural engineering first hand he wishes to dive into the design side of the industry this coming summer.  Once qualified he plans on pursuing a PE or an SE to further utilize his studies.
