Technical Assignments

Technical Assignment 1

Structural Existing Conditions Report consists of a requirement to
describe the physical existing conditions of the structure of the building including information
relative to design concepts and required loading. It provides an overview of all the
structural components of the building including, but not limited to, the general floor framing,
structural slabs, lateral resisting system, foundation system, bracing elements, expansion joints,
secondary structural systems for equipment support etc. and support and bracing of the exterior
envelope of the building.

Technical Assignment 2

Prepare a study and comparison of five different alternative floor framing systems for
the JW Marriott. At least one must be a different framing material. If possible, select systems that have a reasonable chance
of being considered as part of your end of the semester structural proposal.

Technical Assignment 3

In the third technical report the existing lateral system is evaluated. Both seismic and wind forces are calculated and distributed to the lateral force resisting system. Spot checks of lateral elements were done. Wall columns were investigated to determine contribution to lateral stiffness. Total building deflection is evaluated and compared to the industry standard H/400.
