getting to know andrea k. klein

Andrea Klein hails from the town of Hillsborough in central New Jersey. Born betwixt two brothers she learned the joys of construction at a young age, through LEGO®s, Lincoln Logs™ and K’NEX®. In contrast with her interest in building (and destroying) roller coasters and castles, she has been a dancer since the age of 3 and danced competitively until college. Her other primary extracurricular activity was musical instruments, of which she played several until settling on sousaphone in high school. Always dreaming of becoming an architect, she enjoyed math and the sciences all through her early education. In her sophmore year of highschool, during a drafting class, Andrea was introduced to the concept of architectural engineering and never looked back.

At Penn State University, Andrea is a 5th year senior working to obtain both her Bachelor and Master of Architectural Engineering. During her college career she studied architecture for a summer in Rome, Italy, earning a minor in Architectural Studies. She has also been a member of Orchesis Dance Company, the Penn State Fitness Staff, and danced and moraled for the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Embracing her love for construction, Andrea spent the past two summers interning for Gilbane Building Company in their Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. This past summer Andrea worked at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC and achieved her OSHA 30 certification. Upon graduation in May 2008, Andrea plans to enter in the construction management industry as an EIT. Her future goals include passing both the PE, and LEED-AP exam, and becoming an advocate for green building.
