Thesis Proposal

The Thesis proposal gives an overall summary of the work which was completed during the first three technical reports. From these reports an initial program for the lighting and electrical redesign for my theiss has been developed. In Addition, the mechanical and acoustical breadths I have chosen have been summarized.

Updated Thesis Proposal (March 18th 2008)

Breadth 1 (Structural)

With the redesign of the clerestory in the painting studio to a skylight system, a structural breadth will be done to redesign the roof framing. The proposed change will analyze the effect of adding a column at the mid span of the bay and creating a girder that splits the bay in half along the East/West direction. The girder will then carry load of newly designed joists that will span the length of the beam.

Breadth 2 (Acoustical)

The program of the building calls out for many different studios within the building. Metal and wood studios are located in the lower level of the building. The machines of in these spaces cause a large amount of noise and create potential for vibrations through the structure. An analysis of the existing acoustical conditions of the metal working studio will be performed. This study will include an overall condition of the space as well as the adjacent general classroom area. From this initial study, the rooms will be redesigned from improved acoustical properties which will create a more comfortable and safer environment for those in the metal studio and adjacent spaces.
