Monica C. Steckroth

Monica is completing her fifth year as an Architectural Engineering student at The Pennsylvania State University with a focus in the structural option.  She will be graduating with a Master and Bachelor of Architectural Engineering along with an Architectural Studies Minor in the spring of 2008.  Penn State AE has been a perfect fit, enabling her to explore her interest in arts and architecture, while applying her technical capabilities.

Monica’s internship with Hope Furrer Associates, Inc. has provided her a more comprehensive understanding of structural analysis and practical approaches to building design.  Her internship with Sheetz Inc. allowed her to observe the construction process, while designing and communicating AutoCAD documents.

In her spare time, Monica took full advantage of all that Penn State has to offer.  During the summer of 2006, she participated in the study abroad program in Rome, Italy.  This experience gave her the opportunity to study ancient architecture and structure, while developing an appreciation of foreign culture.  She also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana to assist with the post Hurricane Katrina rebuild. For two years she was an active member of Penn State’s Varsity Cheerleading Program.  She managed a demanding schedule while concurrently achieving Dean’s List.

Monica has recently passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and plans to pursue her Professional Engineer’s license after graduation.  She is excited to build upon  acquired knowledge and experiences to follow a career as a structural engineer.
