introduction

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web‐based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year‐long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural Engineering. For an explanation of this capstone design course and its requirements click here.

Throughout the course of the fall semester, my study of Sherrerd Hall at Princton University will involve a thorough investigation of the building and systems currently in place, technical analysis of building systems, and the development of project criteria to that will ultimately lead to more advanced design work next semester. At the culmination of the academic year, I will submit a formal written report and present my design work to a faculty jury.

My thesis will involve an in depth study of the lighting and electrical systems. Incorporating work from my graduate course in daylighting, I will also focus on the impact that the advanced building skin system has on daylighting potential. Daylighting will be considered as a way to reduce building energy consumption through the incorporation of daylight responsive lighting controls. The quality of the natural light and its effects on occupant comfort and satisfaction will also be an integral part of the study. My research will also relate to architectural, structural, mechanical, and construction features of the building.
