Course Reflection

The Architectural Engineering Senior Thesis Capstone is a unique experience that the AE department has on campus. The senior thesis capstone allowed me to experience being a CM and to apply everything I learned in Penn State in the past five years.

In the fall semester, I analyzed all building systems and broke everything in small manageable details. I have learned the construction issues and complexities faced the project team and how they resolved them. All that work was divided into three Technical Reports.Further, I had the opportunity to propose four areas of improvements to enhance the construction experience on the project.

In the second and final stage of the senior thesis capstone, which is in the spring semester, I started researching how to implement those four areas of improvements. Then, the research outcomes were investigated and turned into application yielding to the Final Thesis Report. The second stage of the senior thesis capstone was the most challenging. That is due to being on my own in terms of what I need to accomplish and due to the lack of deadlines where all guidelines and deadlines were clear in the first stage of the senior thesis capstone.

CPEP Reflection

The CPEP website is one of the most beneficial aspects of the senior thesis capstone. This electronic documentation is a vital connection between the student and all faculty members where they can check on work progress anytime and anywhere. Another added benefit is that future employers can access the electronic copies of my work rather than presenting printed copies to show the compiled work through the year. The CPEP website also serves as a database for AE students, including myself, to have a better understanding of how to perform a certain task in their senior thesis capstone projects.

Notes

While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the
pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐inprogress
for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and
construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Christopher
Ankeny. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was
flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been
incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original
design.
