Easter Egg!

Reflection

There are many menchanisms present behind the scenes in the PSU AE program. Because of these our program remains among the very best. To help maintain this standard for future students, here is my personal assesment of the ABET outcome for myself and personal reflection on the standards.

Senior Thesis:

The strangest thing about translating academia to the professional world is the bosses. In the professional world you will likely have one boss. Maybe three if you're involved in a lot of projects. In academia you have at minimum four. This semester I had six. All demanding that you give their material your undivided attention. Add something like thesis on to this and it makes me extremely grateful that this is a single year thing. But this designed to fail scenario is extremely good at teaching difficult to define skills. You must communicate with staff at the project and your advisor when something goes wrong because you will not have time to fix it on your own. You must learn how to focus on the important parts of your solution and set aside the unimportant because you don't have time for your report to go onto tangents. While technical skill was the obvious cornerstone to thesis, the soft skills practiced were the true benefit of completing thesis.

Website:

There is nothing to prepare us for designing a website in the curriculum. And that is in some ways a very smart move. In the professional world there will be times when we are called upon to do something we are completely unfamiliar with. Somehow we must figure it out and create a solution. This website is a micro test to see how we respond in such a situation. I had no idea where to start and in searching I found a site called Code Academy. In hind sight I wish I had gone with WordPress or another drag and click site creator. But Code Academy actually taught me the basics of HTML. While my site is hard on the eyes, I can actually read code now. Because of this, when I next need to make a site I'll have a clue were to begin.

While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work-in-progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Lauren Kandt. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
