CPEP and Senior Thesis Reflection

The Penn State Architectural Engineering Senior Thesis Project is a very in-depth study of a building. This assignment is the only time in our education where students can actively pursue any design query that they like. The thesis project encourages both further study in their option field but also a chance to increase their knowledge of adjacent building engineering subjects such as building structure, construction, or acoustics.

The fall semester allows mechanical students to delve into a professional mechanical system design and examine the design standards that it follows. This is integral to understanding the design process in the professional world. The spring semester allows the student to design their own system and to try to make changes or amendments to the building design. This step lets the student try any new technology and feel fulfillment in determining whether it is better than the existing design.

Creating and maintaining a website using CPEP adds an extra dimension to the study. It was a good way to keep all the documents in one place and to easily present it to advisors and the public. It encourages the students to arrange the information in an appealing fashion, both visually and thematically. Overall, the Senior Thesis Project is a great experience for students to complete their well-rounded education in architectural engineering.
