Introduction to CPEP

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web-based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year-long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural Engineering.

About the Project

The Steidle Building is a mixed-use facility that houses the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MatSE) of Pennsylvania State University. It will include new classrooms, laboratories and offices that have been insufficient over the past several years as MatSE has continued to grow and become a renowned research and education oriented program.

Approximately 60% of the building is the original 1929 structure that is being renovated as a modern office space with specialized labs on the first floor. While the original structure and exteriors shall remain, the interiors are being fully replaced with an emphasis on open communication and collaboration. The other 40% of the building is a brand new central wing, replacing the old central wing that was added in 1940. In addition to the new classroom and lab spaces, the central wing will hold an upgraded HVAC system in its penthouse that will meet the current and future demands of the building's occupants.
