Senior Thesis Reflection

Overall, AE 481W, or more commonly known as senior thesis, was the most challenging and rewarding course of my entire academic career. It pushed me harder than any other course ever has and has taught me invaluable lessons regarding work ethic, time management, and prioritization. The work I completed for senior thesis gave me a deeper understanding of building construction and all of the people/processes that go into the successful design and construction of a building.

At some points throughout the semester I found myself wondering if senior thesis is more suited to the design options. At certain points throughout the semester I pondered whether or not a work study or yearlong project similar to the one CM students have to do for AE 473 would be more beneficial to CM's since that project closely mirrored the actual work that we will be asked to perform once in industry.

Overall, the experience taught me a great deal about myself and how to be successful and was undoubtedly one of the most valuable experiences I've had in my college career. Please find a copy of my ABET assessment here.

CPEP Reflection

The CPEP site was valuable in sharing information about my senior thesis project with friends and family as well as industry professionals who I had approaced for advice on the project. I believe that utilizing a web page to showcase work is a valuable skill that students are lucky to have upon graduation in our program. However, I believe that more needs to be done to educate future thesis students on how to actually do this. There was little information provided in the way of the actual operation of dreamweaver and anyone without webpage experience, which this year happened to be most of us, were left to try to figure it out on our own which proved inefficient and very time consuming.
