About Justin

Justin Daniel Schultz is a fifth year Architectural Engineering Student at The Pennsylvania State University. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree, with a specialty in Building Mechanical Systems. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam in April, 2006, Justin will obtain his E.I.T. status upon graduation in May 2007.  In addition to his studies at Penn State, Justin had the exciting opportunity to participate in the student exchange program at the University of Leeds in Leeds, England during the Fall 2005 Semester. While abroad, Justin participated in numerous structural and architectural design courses and gained a strong appreciation of Europe’s extensive history while traveling between his studies.

Justin has had the opportunity to participate in various summer internships which has given him the confidence and experience to jump-start his career in Architectural Engineering.  Justin began his internship experience after his freshman year with Cannon Design in Buffalo, New York performing heat and design load calculations as well as researching LEED green building design. Given the opportunity to return to Cannon after his sophomore and junior years, Justin was able to assist and concentrate his efforts on building mechanical system design projects.

After his senior year, Justin decided to spend the summer working with Tour-Andover Controls in Dallas, Texas. Throughout his internship there, Justin was able to perform preliminary and detailed energy audits of building MEP systems. Working with TAC, he was able to gain hands-on experience and learn about mechanical systems while on site visits.

During his free time, Justin enjoys cycling as well as participating in the Lion Scouts program at University Park. Through Lion Scouts, Justin volunteers with the admissions department and gives tours to prospective students and families on campus.

In the fall of 2006, Justin became an active member of the Penn State Solar Decathlon team, which will compete to design, build, and operate an attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered home. Using only energy from the sun, the team must generate enough electricity to run a modern household. With an eye on energy efficiency, the mechanial team will carefully design the plant systems and play a prime role in providing energy guidance to the other divisions on the project.

In addition to his extracurricular activities, Justin is a member of the Student Society of Architectural Engineers (SSAE) and the student chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Upon graduation, Justin is set to start a career in Mechanical Systems Design and work towards obtaining his license as a professional engineer. After an exciting five years at Penn State, Justin has decided to venture out to the west coast and pursue a career with Flack & Kurtz in San Francisco, CA. Although it is humbling to leave Penn State behind, he is very excited to open up the door to the next phase of his life.
