AE 481W/482 Course Survey

The department of Architectural Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University has provided students a strong foundation of building systems in the four years leading up the the senior thesis. Using this core knowledge provided a base as to where to begin the thesis project, however I feel it is self-motivation and outside research that truly made it a success. Many of the mechanical system options that were discussed in my presentation were only lightly touched upon in my core classes. With the advice of my thesis advisors and mentors, in conjunction with my outside research, this project was truly a learning experience that I can take with me into my career. Although my focus was only on a select mechanical system, the research to come to that decision was a lengthly process that allowed me to analyze and rule out numerous other systems at the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute.

CPEP and Discussion Board Reflection

It was an exciting experience creating this CPEP website. It gave friends, family, employers and advisors a way to watch my progress and gave me a sense of pride and accomplishment to see it slowly progress throughout the year. I breathe a sigh of relief to be writing this reflection and know that my senior thesis is finally complete.

The discussion board was a great tool to keep the students in contact with our mentors. To be able to ask questions and have immediate responses from people in the workforce was crucial to the success of the senior thesis. In addition, to be able to see what our fellow classmates were asking truly spurred the thought process for the entire class and allowed us to all benefit from each others thesis projects.
