Student Biography
a                 At an early age, Michael had always had a dual interest in buildings: how and why buildings look like they do, and how they are able to stand up. He became heavily involved in art, developing his sketching and painting skills, which he does to this day. In school he excelled in math and science which, coupled with his interests and artistic talents, led him to Penn State’s Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree.

The 2005 Sedi de Roma summer architecture study abroad program solidified Michael’s interest in pursuing an architecture degree. This experience, combined with his dual American-German citizenship has supported his interest in learning about other cultures, extending his career goals to work for international design firms.  He has come closer to this goal by obtaining a summer 2007 architecture apprenticeship in Zurich, Switzerland. A summer 2006 internship with an electrical design-build firm in Washington, DC gave him experience working with an integrated construction-design team.

After completing his B.A.E. in May, 2008 Michael hopes to build on his engineering skills by attending graduate school in order to obtain a Masters of Architecture for future certification. His long term career goal is to work on a multidisciplinary design team at an Architectural engineering firm, where he will be able to use and develop both his architecture and structural skills.
